I spent a perfect long weekend in Victoria courtesy of Destination Greater Victoria and absolutely fell in love with the area. If you are looking for a destination that perfectly blends natural beauty, charming heritage, and vibrant culture, Victoria, BC, should be at the top of your list. Nestled on Vancouver Island, this picturesque city offers everything from the stunning Butchart Gardens to the iconic Inner Harbour. Vancouver Island feels like stepping into a charming postcard, with its colorful gardens, stunning waterfront views, and cobblestone streets lined with Victorian era architecture. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or a foodie on the hunt for fresh, local fare, Victoria delivers an unforgettable experience at every turn! What is even better is that the weather is mild making it a perfect year round destination and a place that should be on the top of everyone's bucket list!

When to visit:
If you're thinking about visiting Victoria, BC, the best time to go really depends on what kind of experience you're after. For those who love milder weather and fewer crowds, spring (April to June) is perfect—gardens are in full bloom, especially at the famous Butchart Gardens, and the city’s many parks and trails come to life. If you prefer a lively vibe, summer (July to September) is prime, with festivals, outdoor activities, and sunny days perfect for strolling along the Inner Harbour. Fall (October-November) offers a quieter, more laid-back atmosphere with stunning autumn colors, plus you'll find great deals on hotels as the tourist rush winds down. Winter (December-March) can be rainy but has its charm, especially if you’re into cozy cafes, winter markets, and a peaceful vibe where you can enjoy the city without the crowds. So, whether you’re after sunshine or serene solitude, there's no bad time to explore this coastal city!

Getting to Victoria, BC, is part of the adventure. Whether you’re arriving by air, sea, or road, the journey to this picturesque island city is as stunning as the destination itself. Here’s a quick guide to help you plan your trip:
1. By Ferry (The Classic Coastal Experience)
If you’re traveling from Vancouver or the mainland, BC Ferries is the way to go. Head to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal (about 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver) and hop on a scenic ferry ride to Swartz Bay Terminal, just 30 minutes from downtown Victoria. Keep your camera handy—there’s a good chance of spotting seals or even orcas along the way!
2. By Air (For the Jet-Setters)
For a quicker trip, flying into Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is an excellent option. Flights from Vancouver, Calgary, and Seattle are short and sweet, leaving more time for exploring. Once you land, the city center is only about a 25-minute drive away.
Feeling adventurous? Try a seaplane! Companies like Harbour Air offer breathtaking flights from Vancouver’s waterfront to Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

Ugly Duckling Dining & Provisions: Situated in the heart of Chinatown, this fine dining establishment presents an immersive tasting menu that celebrates Vancouver Island's diverse produce, complemented by the rich cultural heritage of the area. This made for one of the best asian meals I have ever had!

10 Acres at The Pier: This restaurant emphasizes farm-to-table dining, offering dishes prepared with ingredients sourced directly from their own farm, ensuring fresh and sustainable meals.

The Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens is a jaw-dropping paradise that feels like stepping into a enchanted world. Spread over 55 acres, this botanical wonderland is filled with colors, textures, and fragrances that change with the seasons. From the serene Japanese Garden to the vibrant Sunken Garden, every corner offers a new delight, making it a haven for nature lovers and photographers alike. Whether you're strolling among tulips in the spring, soaking in the roses during summer, or marveling at the illuminated magic of the holiday lights in winter, there's always something to discover. It’s more than a garden—it’s a sensory escape that stays with you long after you leave.
Malahat Skywalk
Nestled high above the treetops on Vancouver Island, The Malahat SkyWalk is a breathtaking adventure that seamlessly blends nature and innovation. This stunning wooden spiral tower rises 250 meters above sea level, offering visitors an unforgettable 360-degree view of lush forests, shimmering waterways, and the distant mountains. The gentle incline of the pathway makes it accessible for everyone, whether you're strolling with family or seeking a peaceful escape. For the adventurous, a thrilling spiral slide offers a fast way down, adding a touch of excitement to this serene experience. Surrounded by native plants and interpretive features that celebrate the region's natural beauty and Indigenous culture!
Whale watching Tour
If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure that blends natural beauty and marine wildlife with a touch of awe-inspiring magic, a whale-watching tour in Victoria, BC, is an absolute must! Nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Victoria offers prime access to the Salish Sea, one of the best places in the world to see orcas, humpback whales, gray whales, and minke whales in their natural habitat. We set up our tour with Orca Spirit Adventures and were so happy with our experience! Beyond the thrill of spotting these magnificent creatures, you'll also be treated to breathtaking views of rugged coastlines, lush islands, and snow-capped mountains. It was raining the day I had my tour so sadly I didn't capture the best photos but we were able to see at least 20 whales so It was well worth it!
Fisherman's Wharf
Fisherman’s Wharf was one of my favorite stops on the trip! This charming waterfront area offers a unique mix of local seafood, vibrant houseboats, and stunning views of the harbor. You can stroll along the colorful docks, savor freshly caught fish from the local eateries, or even grab a seat on one of the floating patios while watching seals and otters frolic in the water. Fisherman’s Wharf is the perfect spot to kick back and experience the heart of Victoria’s maritime culture.
Traditional Tea at Pendray Inn
If you're looking for a quintessentially Victorian experience, you absolutely must indulge in traditional afternoon tea at Pendray Inn. This charming heritage home offers more than just a cup of tea—it’s an immersive journey back in time. The beautifully restored interior, complete with vintage furniture and rich wood paneling, sets the perfect atmosphere for savoring an elegant selection of fine teas, perfectly paired with delicate finger sandwiches, fresh scones with clotted cream, and decadent pastries.
Goldstream Provincial Park
Goldstream Provincial Park is the perfect spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Just a short drive from downtown, this lush, rainforest offers an array of outdoor experiences. Whether you're hiking along the scenic trails, marveling at the towering old-growth trees, or visiting the iconic Goldstream River, it’s the perfect escape into nature. In the fall, you can witness the spectacular salmon run! And with its proximity to Victoria, you get the best of both worlds—wilderness and city life—making it a great spot for a quick day trip.
